Predicting Success

Studies by the RAND Corporation and the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) demonstrate the advantage of a three-year-old through eighth grade education; they enhance academic, social, and emotional development while bringing about improved self-esteem and confidence.
A two-year study by American College Testing (ACT) found that eighth grade academic achievement in an appropriate eighth grade curriculum was more significant in determining future success in high school and college than any high school academics experience.
Studies by Baltimore Schools found that students in K-8 schools score higher in standardized achievement testing in reading, language and math than traditional 6-8 middle schools.
K-8 students have higher overall academic acheivement, tend to participate in more extracurricular activities and have a higher acceptance rate into area high schools of choice. (Offenburg 2001)
